Mobile website – LAUNCH

Tom Cledwyn

Today we launch an upgraded mobile version of our own website. Clear and concise, our aim was to produce an intuitive experience with stripped down and on-the-go relevant content. Interestingly*, we’ve been doing a bit of research on mobile usage and trends so thought we’d share a finding or two….

Someone you don’t know about but should – Luis Von Ahn

Tom Cledwyn

Guatemala City. 1979. A boy is born that will change the world. Through slight variations of an initial idea he will dip and dive his way towards creating something pretty inspiring and he’ll do so by using millions and millions of hours of our time without us even knowing. He’s brilliant. And you should know about him.

Airtime

Airtime….. fun & phallus-free?

Tom Cledwyn

Sean Parker is a guy with an incredible knack of having his fingers in the correct proverbial pies. His CV includes over a billion dollars worth of interest in Facebook and a founding credit in Napster as well as playing Justin Timberlake in a film. Or vica versa. He’s bored. So yesterday he launched (with an awkward glitch or two), AIRTIME, a place where you can…

“Create experiences with people you know, or people you want to know”.

M&C Saatchi Mobile Website

Now I am working down in London as part of Mylo Design it has been a real treat to work on some of the websites we have been creating. One of the most note worthy has to be having the opportunity to work on the design for M&C Saatchi Mobiles new website which we launched at the beginning of this year.

The 216 Web Colours….

Tom Cledwyn

Designers were often encouraged to stick to these 216 “web-safe” colors in their websites; however, 8-bit color displays were much more common when the 216-color palette was developed than they are now. David Lehn and Hadley Stern have since discovered that only 22 of the 216 colors in the web-safe palette are reliably displayed without inconsistent remapping on 16-bit computer displays. They called these 22 colors the “really safe” palette; it consists mainly of shades of green and yellow, as can be seen in the table above, where the “really safe” colors are underlined.

A Day Made of Glass – VIDEO

Tom Cledwyn

Exciting? Scary? Neither word can be discounted from the way in which we must all inevitably be feeling about the digitalisation of our world. This video brought to you by Coring is a prime example of one of those ‘hoverboard’ moments. One in which your operational self either arouses or diminishes into a intimidated worthlessness. Either way, this Minority Report-esque future is on it’s way. Let just be thankful it doesn’t include with it Tom Cruise.

David Walker – Solo Exhibition

Tom Cledwyn

So we ventured down to The Rook and Raven gallery last night on Rathbone Place in W1 to see the opening of David Walker‘s first London solo exhibit.

The-Independent

The Tyranny of Choice – Independent Article November, 2011

Tom Cledwyn

We were recently asked by our good friends at Find Invest Grow to write an article for the Independent’s ‘Young Entrepreneur’ section. Given free range to come up with a topic, we decided that discussing what role ‘Choice’ played in our work and our process may be an interesting starting point. Perhaps interesting isn’t the right word but it would be great to hear your thoughts.

5 TED talks all designers must see…….

Tom Cledwyn

It’s difficult not to spend hours on TED’s website. One talk turns into three or four and all of a sudden you’re behind or late for whatever it is you’re really meant to be doing but at least with procrastination of this form you come away more informed. More interesting.

Amongst the thousands of talks available, there are some real gems specifically for designers. Here, we’ve tried to give you 5 talks (in no particular order) that will give you something to think about in preparation for yet another fast approaching working week.

siri

Siri – Apple iPhone 4S

Tom Cledwyn

Siri was founded in 2007 by  Dag Kittlaus, Adam Cheyer, and Tom Gruber, and Norman Winarsky and after two rounds of funding was bought by Apple in April 2010. The latest iPhone launch may have disappointed many – but check out how Apple’s purchase is being put to use and how it could play a role in your life…..

stevejobs

In memory of Steve Jobs – A must see speech

Tom Cledwyn

“Steve was among the greatest of American innovators – brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it. The world has lost a visionary.”

From the green green grass of Cambridge to the hustle & bustle of London

Will Donoghue – Latest member of Mylo Design

Within the last couple of months I have traded the quiet life of a freelance designer in Cambridge for the hustle and bustle of central London. Working beneath  the railway arches off Rivington St you will now find me tucked away behind the night club Cargo on in Archway 462 next to the Black Rat Press.

A place of your own

Ben Aldred

Being a newbie to having a personal website, it got me thinking about when it becomes necessary for a person to have an online presence beyond their profiles on social and professional networks such as Facebook and Linkedin.

uthink

UNTHINK – It’s FU time, is it?

Tom Cledwyn

Soon to launch, UNTHINK describes itself as a “social revolution” rather than a social network. They’ve supposedly kicked back against the tyranny of modern day social networks and the say they have our own privacy.

gigwalk

A new era of Crowd Sourcing

Tom Cledwyn

With good noises appearing left, right and centre - Gigwalk is definitely worth a look into for an insight into how many may look to their phones as a possible revenue stream. It’s an extremely interesting model which has been better summarised by Alice Truong in the New York Journal this week.

themuseumofme

Intel’s ‘Museum of Me’

Tom Cledwyn

Old news but still as brilliant. For those you that haven’t taken the 10 minutes out to do this - do.
